Elijah and Grace were looking forward to seeing someone “who used to work with Nana” in this fancy, new, exciting place. I remember when I was around nine or ten I participated with Leader Currie for a couple of years in an annual walk against handgun violence. As we walked along the lakefront we wore black armbands for Chicagoans who had been killed by handguns and I remember her explaining to me what they were. She had an early influence on my understanding of the importance of individual action in creating social change.
