As the hearing wore on* and the kids got restless we went exploring and peeked in so that they could see “where nana used to work.” I remembered that she sat on the right side of the aisle – under the portrait of Lincoln.
*I later learned the reason the hearing was so long was partly because the Illinois Coalition for Midwifery had organized a stellar line up of expert speakers to testify in what one legislator later described as “the best hearing I’ve ever seen.”
